Pedal power at the ready as Ride for Ryder gears up for its 38th year

Southsea

Cyclists across Gloucestershire are being encouraged to get in gear and sign up for Ride for Ryder, which returns on Sunday 12 July 2026 for its 38th year.

Starting and finishing at Dean Close School in Cheltenham, the much-loved charity ride is back for 2026 and riders are being invited to ‘saddle up’ for a day of stunning scenery and pedal powered fundraising to help Sue Ryder continue to be there when it matters for families needing expert and compassionate care.

One of the longest running and best supported charity bike rides sportives in the Cotswold's region, Ride for Ryder sponsored by Cape Homes offers five fully supported routes – from 40km to 160km – making it an inclusive challenge for cyclists of all abilities. Every participant will receive a finisher’s medal, with on route support from local bike mechanics, marshals and volunteers to keep riders safe, hydrated and motivated throughout the day.

Riders who raise over £150 in sponsorship will also earn a new 2026 Sue Ryder cycling jersey to wear with pride on the day.

Money raised through the event will help Sue Ryder continue providing expert end-of-life care and bereavement support at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Matt Reay, Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: “Ride for Ryder is always a real highlight in our calendar, and we can’t wait to welcome cyclists back for another incredible year.

“Whether you’re taking on your first sportive or challenging yourself to go further, every pedal stroke helps us be there for families when it matters most. By signing up and fundraising, you’re not just joining a brilliant day out, you’re making sure local people can receive the expert care and support they deserve.”

This year’s Ride for Ryder is proudly sponsored by Cape Homes, with event partners British Cycling, Dean Close and in2print helping to make the day safe, smooth and enjoyable for every rider.

Mark Holland, from Cape Homes, said: “Ride for Ryder is a fantastic event that brings people together for an important cause, and we’re proud to be supporting it for the third-year running.

“At Cape Homes, we’re committed to playing an active role in our local community, and partnering with Sue Ryder is a fantastic way for us to help make a difference. Every year we’re inspired by the dedication of the riders and volunteers who make this event so special, and we’re delighted to be part of it once again.”
