You butter believe it! Yate care chefs shortlisted for national accolade

Yate

Venue: Ladden View Care Home

A care home in Yate is celebrating after its catering team has been nominated for an award.

Care UK's Ladden View, on Fletcher Road, has been shortlisted for the Catering Team of the Year award in the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) national awards.

The award recognises excellence within culinary teams in the care sector, celebrating those who have the skills, innovation and dedication to going above and beyond in their provision of delightful and personalised food experiences for older people.

The team is made up of seven individuals who all joined the care home when it opened its doors in 2024. They are led by passionate head chef James Kerton, who views feedback as a creative opportunity in the kitchen. This is reflected in a survey within the home that found 90 per cent of residents enjoyed their mealtime experiences.

James said: “I’m over the moon that the team and I have been shortlisted for this award. We’re so passionate about making food personal, whether that’s through a favourite dish, a shared memory or simply something that makes someone smile.

“Ladden View wouldn’t be the same without the wonderful residents, and I’m so happy our cooking plays such an important and fun part in their lives here. I’d like to thank my incredible team for giving their best and ensuring we stay innovative and inspired every single day.”

James and the team provide quarterly tasting menus for the residents with new menu options, ensuring that residents play an important role in shaping their own food experiences. They have also devised WaterADE jellies, as a more appealing alternative for residents struggling to stay hydrated, especially those living with dementia.

They also make their own ice cream from scratch, having noticed that it was one of the residents’ favourite treats. With flavours such as Cherry Bakewell, Banana Millionaire and Raspberry Ripple, the team love experimenting to ensure that the offer stays tempting, whilst also containing the best nutritional content possible.

Sarah Daly, Home Manager at Ladden View, said: “We’re thrilled that our catering team has been shortlisted for an award that recognises their culinary ability and person-centred approach to food at Trymview Hall.

“James and his expert kitchen team make such a positive impact on residents at the home, cooking them delicious and nutritious meals that cater to their preferences. We’re so proud of the hard work they put in every day.

“We’ll all be keeping our fingers crossed for a win later this year!”

The winners in each category of the NACC National Awards will be announced at a Gala Dinner at the NACC Training & Development Forum on 15th October 2026.
