Letter to editor: Give your Christmas tree a second life with Sue Ryder

Dear Editor,

With Christmas nearly upon us, I want to say a huge thank you to the Gloucestershire community for their tree‑rrific support of Sue Ryder’s Christmas Treecycling scheme so far and to share that there is still time to get involved this festive season.

Once the crackers have been pulled and the mince pies eaten, our team of friendly volunteers will be ready to collect Christmas trees directly from people’s front doors, gardens, or driveways. By choosing to recycle your real tree with an optional donation to Sue Ryder, your tree could become the gift of expert care, advice, and compassion for those living with serious illness, or facing death and grief - so that no one has to go through it alone.

Signing up to the scheme not only supports the vital work we do at Sue Ryder but also helps the environment. Real Christmas trees are 100% recyclable and can be turned into compost or wood chippings for local parks and woodlands or used to generate green energy.

Last year, Sue Ryder provided palliative and bereavement care to thousands of families across the country, including those supported by our hospice and community teams at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. In fact, our Christmas Treecycling service in Gloucestershire saved 1,579 trees from landfill and raised £36,500, helping more people than ever to access our specialist care and support.

Your kindness and generosity can make a real difference. So, take one thing off your festive plate and sign up for Sue Ryder’s Christmas Treecycling scheme. You’ll be helping Sue Ryder staff to deliver valuable end‑of‑life care and to support grieving families.

To find out more and to book your tree collection before midnight on 6 January (collections will take place between 12–16 January), visit www.sueryder.org/treeglos.
Thank you for your ongoing kindness and support.

Kind regards, Graham Stubbs Sue Ryder Nurse at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice
