Neighbours brave the shave to raise money for Sue Ryder

70-year-old, Dee Ascroft from Cheltenham and her neighbour 19-year-old Lizzie have gone the extra inch raising more than £1,500 for Sue Ryder.

Dee, who became a volunteer at Sue Ryder Leckhamton Court Hospice following the expert and compassionate care the charity provided to people close to her, says, “I wanted to raise money in an unusual way, and do my bit to make sure all of the excellent Sue Ryder services can continue”.

Joining her to shave her hair for Sue Ryder was her neighbour Lizzie. They were supported by hospice staff and volunteers who cheered for them on the day.

Dee, who volunteers on the reception at the hospice’s Community Hub, adds: “Both Lizzie and I know how important kind, caring, and expert end of life care is. We want to raise awareness of the support that Sue Ryder continues to need, and thank all the staff and Sue Ryde Nurses who do so much to help people when they need it most.”

Sara Nunn, Regional Fundraiser at Sue Ryder, said: “Too many people still miss out on the end-of-life care they need, and too often grief goes unsupported, leaving people in unnecessary pain, distress and isolation. We can’t stop terminal illness, death and grief, but we can stop people facing them alone. The money Dee and Lizzie have raised helps ensure more people get the care and specialist support they deserve, and we are so grateful to them.”
