Watch, learn, cook and enjoy some of the most interesting and historically relevant Anglo- Indian dishes at this month's East India Cafe Cookery Masterclass.

What is Memsahib?

The Memsahib can simply be defined as a European woman in India during this period. Repeatedly mentioned in history books, these Anglo-Indian women are recognised for empowering women in India, whilst also introducing Cheltenham to the Anglo-Indian culture. Bridging a gap between the nation, people and heritage.

In India, the Memsahib would host a feast in the comfort of her own home for her family and friends. Together, we will be learning how to make some of the Colonial foods created during the days of the Raj, showcased in the Memsahib’s kitchen. Our objective will be to recreate those Anglo-Indian dishes often cooked by the Khansamas in Memsahib’s supervision.

Proposed sample items:

• Tandoori Scallop, tamarind, roasted shallot and bacon
• Memsahib’s Vegetable Pie (not as you know it)
• Smoked BBQ Masala Beef Rib, roast vegetable and Yorkshire pudding
• Rice Pudding Brulee
