Hear more about a project supporting women farmers on the shores of Lake Victoria near Kisumu. This community lives hand to mouth and is increasingly having to adapt to severe and unpredictable weather. They are growing sweet potatoes co-operatively – a crop which is drought tolerant, as well as being nutritious, and enables them to be more resilient to climate, health and economic challenges. Global Footsteps has supported them financially, providing finance for training and equipment.
Benter is a community leader, a champion of women and girls, and has experience in local politics. In collaboration with Global Footsteps and Leicestershire Climate Action, she took part in an international online conference in 2021 sharing her community’s direct experiences of climate change.
