Our Sleep Easy fundraiser is a unique challenge – offering an insight into the terrible reality of having to sleep rough, while presenting people an opportunity to raise much-needed funds.

As the cost-of-living crisis continues, more and more people are at risk of becoming homeless and they need our help.

By sleeping rough for one night, YOU can make a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable people in our community. You can help be the light in someone’s darkest of times and give hope where there is despair.

In the past year, we have provided over 69,000 safe nights to those in need of shelter across Cheltenham and Gloucester.

You can take part by yourself, or join a team with family, friends or work colleagues. The event will take place in the grounds of the YMCA Cheltenham Sports Centre.

Will you sleep rough, so others don’t have to?

We ask each participant to pay a £10 registration fee. This covers the administration costs of the event, ensuring that every pound you raise through sponsorship goes directly to our work with the homeless.

To take part in our event we need you to commit to raising as much money as you can and a minimum of £100. This can be through sponsorship, or however you decide best. In asking for sponsorship, you are also raising awareness of the issue of homelessness and the work of YMCA Cheltenham locally to address this issue.

SLEEP EASY 2024 SOUP KITCHEN

We understand that sleeping rough, even for one night, is a big ask and not everyone who would like to sleep out and raise funds, is able to do so. Therefore, this year we are inviting you to join us and take part in our BRAND-NEW SLEEP EASY 2024 SOUP KITCHEN.

Taking place on Friday 1st March (the same evening as Sleep Easy) from 6.00-7.30pm, we hope to serve a cup of soup and a bread roll to as many people as possible, with the aim of raising funds and changing lives. We are asking for a donation of £10 per person. Each meal bought helps us to continue our vital work in the community.

Below are some FAQs that you may find useful.

Do I have to sleep out all night?

To provide real insight into what it is like for a homeless person sleeping on the streets of our town we would encourage you to sleep out for the whole night. As a small incentive, the event will end with a delicious breakfast for those who make it through till morning!

Do I need to bring my own shelter?

Yes!  Be resourceful – imagine that you have become homeless and have no alternative but to sleep rough for the night.  It doesn’t just have to be a box, be creative, we just ask for you keep to the spirit of the event.  Think outside the box!

Can I decorate my shelter?

Yes!  One of the first challenges on the Friday evening will be assembling, decorating and weatherproofing your shelter.  YMCA will not be providing the material for this so you may want to think about what you need to bring with you to do this. There will be prizes on the night!

Is it safe to sleep out all night?

Yes. There will be YMCA staff present and awake throughout the night to make sure all participants feel safe and supported during the event. The police are also fully aware and supportive of the event.
