Gloucester’s own Mary-Jess returns home for one-night-only concert at St Mary de Crypt

After nearly a decade away, internationally acclaimed soprano Mary-Jess is returning to Gloucester for a special one-night-only performance this May - and tickets are already selling fast.

The Gloucester-born star will present “A Celebration of Stage & Screen” at the stunning and intimate St Mary de Crypt on Southgate Street on Saturday 16th May at 7pm. With VIP Meet & Greet tickets already completely sold out, music lovers are being urged to secure their seats soon to avoid disappointment.

Mary-Jess first rose to global fame after winning the Chinese version of The X Factor in 2009, launching a remarkable international career. Her journey since has taken her from performing for MARVEL to contributing to the Downton Abbey official soundtrack albums, as well as singing ‘Abide with Me’ on the pitch at Wembley ahead of the 2012 FA Cup Final.

She has performed on some of the world’s biggest stages, singing to 100,000 people in Taiwan and over 300 million on global TV. She also represents British music in 144 countries as part of The GREAT Britain Campaign, as appointed by His Majesty's government at No. 10 Downing Street.

But this concert marks something far more personal.

Raised in Tredworth and educated at St Peter’s and Ribston Hall High Schools, Mary-Jess began her musical journey right here in Gloucester - from becoming one of the youngest members of the Gloucester Cathedral Youth Choir, to local pub karaoke sessions at The Bristol Hotel on Bristol Road.

Now, she’s coming home.

“I’m really looking forward to coming back to Gloucester,” Mary-Jess said. “To perform in somewhere as historic, beautiful and intimate as St Mary de Crypt makes this concert incredibly special.”
