Mendelssohn: Elijah

Gloucester

Dates: 04/05/2024

Venue: Gloucester Cathedral

Never knowingly under‑sung? Join us in Gloucester Cathedral for Elijah, Felix Mendelssohn’s thunderous choral masterpiece, conducted by Musical Director, Adrian Partington.

This fiery work features two halves of thrilling music that ooze peril, prayer and punishment from start to emphatically glorious finish.

First performed in 1846, Mendelssohn’s Elijah is a vivid and captivating journey through the life of the prophet. As if all-consuming fear, ending a drought, almighty acts of God and fiery chariots weren’t enough to keep it interesting, Mendelssohn set it to stunning and uplifting music that, once heard, will not easily be forgotten.

The choir will be accompanied by highly-talented organist and Gloucester Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, Jonathan Hope.
