Versatile Voices - Jonathan Aylett and Nigel Kent

Cheltenham

Dates: 26/04/2024

Venue: St Andrew's United Reform Church Hall

The winner of last year’s Cheltenham Poetry Festival Slam returns to the Festival for a guest slot! Jonathan Aylett is a prize-winning haiku writer who has enjoyed competition success in Poland, Canada, the USA, and Japan. A punk poet in the 90s he is also a charismatic spoken word performer, a regular voice in the vibrant Merseyside spoken word scene. In this unique event, Jonathan will be sharing his dazzling haikus along with his powerful performance poems.

Jonathan is joined by Nigel Kent. 'Fall', Nigel Kent’s latest pamphlet, eavesdrops on an affair that has devastating consequences for a marriage of ten years. This narrative sequence of poems forensically dissects the complex nature of love. There are moments of thrill and exhilaration, of course, but there are also moments of recklessness, delusion, guilt, shame, loss, despair, madness, and more, all captured in authentic, profoundly human poems.
