Join Britain’s top historians and broadcasters as the Gloucester History Festival Spring Weekend returns to the magnificent Blackfriars Priory. This three-day event features a brand-new programme of live talks, compelling conversations, and performances set within one of the UK's most beautiful medieval spaces.

The 2026 Spring Weekend brings together a world-class line-up, including:

  • Mary Beard: On the ancient world of Rome and Greece and its modern relevance.
  • Michael Scott: Exploring the rise and fall of Athens.
  • Alison Weir: On the lives of Medieval Queens at War.
  • Greg Doran: Sharing a moving memoir on Shakespeare’s First Folios.
  • Pam Ayres: Gloucestershire’s own beloved poet sharing her "Life Well Lived."
  • Bendor Grosvenor & Waldemar Januszczak: A live recording of their hit art podcast.

 

Gloucester History Festival Spring Weekend 2026

 

The weekend also features fascinating local history sessions, including the 1926 General Strike in Gloucester, the Battle of the Imjin River 75 years on, and the stories of "Great Gloucestershire Women."

In addition to ticketed talks, visitors can enjoy a host of free activities and short talks in the atmospheric Scriptorium. For those who can't attend in person, many events will be available to stream via the Digital Festival.

  • Individual Events: Typically £10 - £15
  • Livestream Tickets: £7 per event
  • Booking: Tickets go on general sale Friday 6th March 2026.
