Three Explosive Irish Acts Take Over The Prince Albert This March!

This March, The Prince Albert in Stroud proudly presents an unforgettable series of nights featuring three brilliant Irish bands and solo artists - Scustin, Barry Kerr, and The Deadlians - bringing a mix of folk-rock, heart-felt songwriting, and high-octane live energy to the heart of Gloucestershire.
With Irish music thriving across the UK scene, March is the perfect time to celebrate the rich storytelling, fierce rhythms, and bold personalities of emerging and established Irish artists. The Prince Albert’s March line-up delivers something truly special for lovers of live music.

Scustin, support Pebble Daisy - Sun 8th March, 7pm, £14

Experience the raw, exhilarating sound of Scustin, an Irish band known for their electrifying fusion of indie-rock grit and folk-rooted melodies. Their dynamic live performances have earned them a devoted following, and their tunes - which blend cutting riffs with vivid lyrics - make them a standout act on the contemporary Irish music circuit. Imagine what would happen if Blindboy, Mike Skinner and Jamiroquai went for a boozy night out in Bray and wrote an album about it...

The Deadlians - Fri 13th March, 9pm, PAYF (Pay As You Feel)

The Deadlians are a phenomenal Dublin-based band with a cult following, playing a heady mix of folk songs and punk rock, with a touch of psychedelia tying it all together. With thumping drums, a humming synth, evocative guitars, and bucketloads of inventive vocal ornamentation, the fully-fledged five-piece really come together in the catchiness of their arrangements. They are forging their own identity in the alternative folk music scene, and their sound evokes a faintly darker edge to the new generation of Irish alternative trad/folk groups performing today. Led by Dublin man, singer-songwriter, balladeer, poet, storyteller, and musician Sean Fitzgerald, The Deadlians are one of Ireland's best-kept secrets - and not to be missed.

Barry Kerr - Mon 16th March, 7pm, £20/£12(concs)

Barry Kerr is riding a remarkable new wave of recognition, with his seventh studio album Curlew’s Cry shortlisted for Folk Album of the Year. A celebrated composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist, Barry is known for work that captures the raw pulse and quiet poetry of Irish life. Originally from the southern shores of Lough Neagh and now rooted in the wild landscape of Connemara, he has carved out a distinctive voice over more than two decades of touring and recording - sharing stages with some of Ireland’s most revered performers. Barry recorded his debut album at just seventeen, launching an international career that has seen him collaborate with luminaries such as Steve Cooney, Cara Dillon, Julie Fowlis, Lumiere, and Dervish. At the heart of Barry’s recent work lies Curlew’s Cry: a haunting, luminous collection of original and traditional songs inspired by folklore, memory, and the natural world. Its shortlist for Folk Album of the Year marks a powerful moment in the evolution of
an artist whose voice is as timeless as it is unmistakably his own.

Every month the legendary live music venue also hosts Celtic Sessions that bring the heart and spirit of Celtic music to life in a warm, welcoming setting. From traditional Irish jigs and reels to contemporary folk interpretations, these sessions celebrate the rich musical traditions of Ireland, Scotland, and beyond. Whether you’re a lifelong lover of Celtic tunes, an aspiring musician looking to join in, or simply someone who appreciates good music and good company, the Celtic Sessions are for you! In March the sessions will take place on Friday 13th and Friday 27th, 3-6pm, free entry.

On Saturday 9th May the Prince Albert welcomes another celebrated Irish artist - Joshua Burnside

With the evening concert having sold out super quick Joshua will also be performing a Matinee concert on the same day! Joshua Burnside is an experimental folk songwriter, singer and producer. He takes influence from alternative electronica and Irish folk, chopping and blending them with a mixture of found sounds, world music and unorthodox production methods. His third album, Teeth Of Time, sits comfortably and confrontationally between the alt-folk realms, while retaining the indie and traditional folk elements of Josh's signature songwriting. Support comes from fellow Irish musicians Lemoncello (Laura Quirke and Claire Kinsella) , a vital voice in the thriving alternative folk scene in Ireland having been nominated for Best Folk Song and Best Emerging Folk Act at the RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards. Tickets for the matinee show at 2pm are on sale now, £15/£8 (under 18’s).
