Later sessions include R. A. J. Waddingham on Viking conquest and culture, and medieval specialist Rory MacLellan examining the Knights Hospitallers. The day concludes with celebrated historian Ian Mortimer presenting An A–Z of English History -a perfect travel through time to finish the day.
Saturday 20 June features an impressive line-up beginning with historian Matt Lewis, who tackles one of England’s greatest historical mysteries in The Princes in the Tower. Property historian Melanie Backe-Hansen, who worked on acclaimed TV series A House Through Time with David Olusoga, reveals the stories hidden within Britain’s homes, followed by cultural historian Kassia St Clair exploring textiles and society in The Golden Thread.
Welsh historian Nathen Amin examines rebellion and identity in Owain Glyndŵr: Rebel, Prince, Visionary, before historian and broadcaster Kate Lister closes the evening with A Galloping Catastrophe.
The festival concludes on Sunday 21 June with events for both families and dedicated history enthusiasts alike. Children’s author Tom Phillips presents Forest Folklore for Children, followed by historian Elizabeth Norton, who charts 5,000 Years of Female Monarchy.
Award-winning novelist Annie Garthwaite explores the women of the Wars of the Roses, while art historian Daisy Dixon investigates provocative imagery in The Story of Depravity – Dangerous Art.
