Gloucestershire Writers' Network 2026 Competition

Cheltenham

Do you write poetry or prose? Would you like to read your work at The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival in October? The 2026 Gloucestershire Writers’ Network Competition is now open for all writers of poetry and prose aged 16 and over, who live, work or study in Gloucestershire or South Gloucestershire.
There are prizes of £200 for the best poem (up to 50 lines) and £200 for the best piece of prose (up to 750 words) as well as £100 second prize and two runner-up prizes of £30 in each category. The winners and runners-up will be invited to read at the Gloucestershire Writers’ Network Prize Winners’ event at the Festival in October.
This year’s theme is Islands which you can explore as widely as you like. The judges are David Clarke for poetry and Mandy Robotham for prose. It costs £3.50 for one entry, £6.00 for two and £8.00 for three. The closing date is 31 May 2026. We are also running an online workshop with Angela France on 2nd April.
