Emma Rice Brings Hitchcock’s North by Northwest to Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre Next Week

The world premiere stage adaptation of North by Northwest is heading to the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th June, as part of its UK tour.

This reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic thriller comes from the brilliant mind of Emma Rice (Wise Children, Wuthering Heights, Malory Towers), and promises a night of glamour, jeopardy and old-school Hollywood style, but with a very modern twist.

 

 

North by Northwest is a co-production between Wise Children, York Theatre Royal, HOME Manchester and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, and is Rice’s first time adapting Hitchcock. She is known for her trademark wit and inventiveness on stage.

North by Northwest is performed entirely by a cast of six including Ewan Wardrop (Bagdad Café, The Buddha of Suburbia) as the dashing yet hapless Roger Thornhill, caught up in a Cold War conspiracy when he’s mistaken for someone else.

Joining him are Patrycja Kujawska as the enigmatic Eve Kendall, Katy Owen as the eccentric Professor, Karl Queensborough as suave villain Phillip Vandamm, Simon Oskarsson as the menacing Valerian, and Mirabelle Gremaud as Anna.

 

With a ‘50s soundtrack, quick-fire costume changes, and just a few props (and a LOT of hats), Rice and her team deliver a show that’s funny, touching and totally unexpected.

Gloucestershire audiences can catch the show at the Everyman Theatre for one week only. Don’t miss your chance to see a new British stage classic in the making.
