THE OWL CENTRE SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2024 HSJ DIGITAL AWARDS

Cheltenham

The Owl Centre is delighted to announce the our Hybrid Neurodiversity Assessments project with Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for Optimising Clinical Pathways through Digital at the 2024 Health Service Journal Digital Awards, recognising innovative digital projects transforming care delivery, enhance efficiency, and improve patient outcomes.

343 entries have been received for this year’s Digital Awards, with 165 projects and individuals meriting inclusion on the final shortlist. The high volume - and exceptional quality – of applications once again mirrors the impressive levels of innovation and care continually being developed across the UK’s healthcare system.

Following the thorough judging process, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and The Owl Centre were shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held on 6 June 2024, with its Hybrid Neurodiversity Assessments project standing out as a real ‘success story’ worthy of a prized place on the panel’s shortlist.

In 2021, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust was among other NHS organisations that experienced a surge in referrals for neurodevelopmental assessments. This demand created a four and a half year waiting list. In addition, the service was struggling to retain and recruit staff with the necessary skills and knowledge. A new radical way of working was needed. Working in partnership with parents and the independent sector we developed a unique digital diagnostic pathway enabling paediatric autism assessments to be completed within their local communities, supported by the NHS but with the speed and resource of the independent sector.

Jen Wilson, Head of Autism at The Owl Centre comments, “I am delighted that the hard work and collaboration between us and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust has been recognised by this nomination. I would like to thank the team from The Owl Centre and Humber NHS for their hard work and dedication but most importantly I would like to thank the families and children who have placed their trust in us. It has been a pleasure to work with every one of you."

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan, adds; “It always gives me great pleasure to congratulate our finalists at this stage of the judging process and this year is no exception as we acknowledge Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and The Owl Centre for being shortlisted in the category of Optimising Clinical Pathways through Digital.

“We can’t wait to welcome our finalists to the awards ceremony in June, celebrating their impressive achievements and jointly acknowledging our values of sharing best practice, improving patient outcomes and continuously driving for better service.”

The 2024 awards judging panel was once again made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, including; Olubukola (Buki) Adeyemo, Chief Executive, North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, Hatim Abdulhussein, National Clinical Lead, AI and Digital Workforce (WT&E), NHS England, Dame Margaret Whitehead, Chair, Independent Review Equity in Medical Devices and Luke Readman, Regional Director of Digital Transformation, NHS England (London).
